Some warm feelings from the Commodore Perry Estate in Austin.
The juxtaposition of modern Austin with its historic Clarksville neighborhood continues with this residence that maintains its craftsman style street side while consciously evolving to a contemporary home, sited on a hill at the edge of downtown Austin.
Photographed in winter. Design by LaRue Architects, images commissioned by the owner.
I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating on the shooting of several of Fyoog’s architectural art installations and this one is my favorite so far. Titled Aurorae and installed in the City of Austin’s new Planning and Development Services Center it is several stories tall and composed of over 3,000 translucent tubes whose pattern quietly shifts as the viewer inhabits different parts of the building. Some good news – we now are FAA Part 107 licensed for commercial drone flights. What does that mean? The short answer is that the FAA requires that any commercial project using drones be conducted by a licensed pilot. Yes, that’s a thing.
It’s meant to reduce accidents and ensure that airspace rules are followed (there are a lot of zones out there with differing restrictions, especially urban areas). This is important from a liability perspective. When you have an officially licensed pilot, who has the right insurance, you can be sure that in the event of an incident you’ll be covered. Sweet, right? Also, by bringing this in-house we don’t need a separate operator to match schedules with and can ensure that the aerial shots and ground shots all aesthetically match up. Exciting!
Built on a narrow slot of land that falls off to a creek below, Jay Dupont’s stack house puts the pool on the bottom level where it takes on the feel of a secret cenote.
